Summer bring pool parties, beach days and... weddings? Yes, that's right, wedding season is upon us! If you get an invite, don' fret if you don't have a plus one to bring along. Wedding and wedding receptions can be lovely events and a lot of fun no matter your current dating status. Plus, they're a great place to meet new people. Here are a few tips on how to live it up and enjoy the wedding season with just YOU!
1. First and foremost, arrive at the wedding with an upbeat and positive attitude. If your energy is welcoming and fun, you will be more likely to attract others. Remind yourself that you were invited for a reason...your presence matters to the bride and groom. Be sure to keep your body language relaxed and open and don't forget that smile. Before you know it, you'll be making all sorts of new friends!
2. One of the most common questions asked at weddings is, "how do you know the bride or groom?" Don't just offer, "we work together" or "we went to college together." Be sure to have a funny or charming anecdote to share as to your connection to the new couple. Going that extra step in sharing will be helpful in making you seem approachable, fun and memorable. Also, don't forget to reciprocate and be sure to engage the guests by asking questions and learning more about them.
3. Being proactive about the seating arrangement prior to the wedding can also be helpful. If you know you will be attending the event along, reach out to the bride and groom ahead of time and asked to be seated with other guests who may be flying solo!
Most of all, enjoy the moment and remember that you are there to support and celebrate the bride and groom, so kick up those heels, do the chicken dance and enjoy the cake!
